Steve Burden

About Steve Burden

Steve Burden works in painting to investigate dystopian themes and ideas associated with British housing estates, partly inspired by his personal experience growing up on the Pepys Estate (a high-rise council estate in Deptford, south London). Now based near Bristol, the urban context in which he grew up continues to influence his work and his understanding of what it means to be working-class in today’s society.

Burden graduated from Goldsmiths College, London with First Class Honours and Bath Spa University with a Masters Degree in Fine Art (distinction). He is a member of Spike Associates based at Spike Island in Bristol and an associate member of Bricks Bristol.
